{"id":67,"date":"2026-05-07T03:03:42","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T03:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flyingbirdiegolf.com\/?p=67"},"modified":"2026-05-07T03:03:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T03:03:43","slug":"whats-in-my-golf-bag-as-a-beginner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flyingbirdiegolf.com\/?p=67","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s In My Golf Bag as a Beginner."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I first started golf, I didn\u2019t want to spend thousands of dollars on brand-new equipment right away.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wasn\u2019t even sure if I would fully commit to the game yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So instead of walking into a golf store and buying the newest clubs, I searched Facebook Marketplace and found a full beginner setup for $540 CAD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Honestly, it ended up being one of the best decisions I could have made starting out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Golf Right-Handed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing that makes my golf journey a little different is that I\u2019m naturally left-handed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because I fly to Korea often for work as a flight attendant, my wife\u2019s uncle \u2014 who first introduced me to golf \u2014 recommended I learn right-handed since golf in Korea is much more right-hand dominant when it comes to equipment and availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So even though I\u2019m naturally left-handed, I ended up learning golf right-handed from the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes I still wonder if I made things harder for myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But at this point, it\u2019s part of the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My Beginner Golf Setup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Driver<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>TaylorMade R7 Driver<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stiff shaft<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was the first driver I started learning with. Older club, but still forgiving enough for a beginner trying to build consistency and confidence off the tee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I eventually upgraded to a TaylorMade SIM2 Max driver\u2026 which honestly deserves its own story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Irons<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>TaylorMade R7 Irons (5-SW)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stiff shafts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These irons came with the Marketplace deal and honestly have been great for learning the fundamentals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing I realized quickly is that improving your swing matters more than having the newest equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hybrid<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>E21 Scandium 20\u00b0 Hybrid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This has quietly become one of the most useful clubs in my bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a newer golfer, long irons can feel intimidating, so the hybrid has become a reliable option off the tee, from the fairway, and even from rough lies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wedge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PureSpin Lob Wedge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surprisingly, this has become my favorite club in the bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s just something satisfying about hitting high short shots around the green when they actually work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m still inconsistent with it, but when I catch one clean, it\u2019s probably the most fun club I own right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a beginner, it also made me realize how important the short game really is in golf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Putter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Callaway I-Trax Putter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Putting is currently one of the biggest areas of my game I\u2019m trying to improve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The putter may not be flashy, but it\u2019s helping me learn distance control, pace, and consistency on the greens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I\u2019ve Learned So Far<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a beginner golfer starting at 38, I\u2019ve realized something important:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You do not need the newest equipment to start golfing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A solid used set is more than enough to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>learn fundamentals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improve your swing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>build confidence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>enjoy the game<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most important thing is simply getting out there and playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Golf has already become something much bigger than I expected, and honestly, this setup was the beginning of that journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014 Dan<br>FlyingBirdieGolf<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I first started golf, I didn\u2019t want to spend thousands of dollars on brand-new equipment right away.
